Case-law

Case-law in Finlex consists of over ten databases. The precedents of the following courts are available: The Supreme Court ((Korkein oikeus, in Finnish and Swedish), the Supreme Administrative Court, (Korkein hallinto-oikeus), the Courts of Appeal (Hovioikeus), the Administrative Courts (Hallinto-oikeus), the Market Court (markkinaoikeus, in Finnish and Swedish), the Labour Court (Työtuomioistuin) and the Insurance Court (Vakuutusoikeus). In addition, there are databases with the summaries of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the EC. The database on Case-law in Legal Literature is available in English.

Case-Law in Legal Literature ›

The database includes references to Case-law in Finnish legal literature since 1926. The Case-law consists of judgments of e.g. the Finnish Supreme Court, Supreme Administrative Court, Courts of Appeal, the European Court of Human Rights and the EC Court of Justice.

Supreme Court ›

The database of Supreme Court Precedents includes Supreme Court judgments since 1926. From 1980 onwards it includes all judgments published in the Yearbook of the Supreme Court. The reference data on other judgments than precedents and on permissions to appeal are found in separate databases.

Supreme Administrative Court ›

The database includes judgments of the Supreme Administrative Court since 1944. In addition to the precedents published in the Court Yearbook, summaries of unpublished judgments are found.

Courts of Appeal ›

The database includes judgments of the Courts of Appeal since 1964. The database consists of judgment summaries and since June 2004 of full-text judgments.

Administrative Courts ›

The database includes judgments of the Administrative Courts since 1981. The database consists of judgment summaries.

Market Court ›

The database includes judgments and opinions of the Market Court since 1979. The database consists of judgments on 1) market law cases, 2) competition cases, 3) public procurement cases and 4) energy market cases.

Labour Court ›

The database includes judgments of the Labour Court since 1970. The database consists of the precedents published in the Court Yearbook and the texts of unpublished judgments.

Insurance Court ›

The database includes a selection of judgments of the Insurance Court since 1961. The database consists of the judgments in e.g. occupational disease, injuries and work pension.

European Courts ›

The database of the EU Court of Justice includes case summaries 1961-1994 (in Finnish). The database of the European Court of Human Rights includes summaries of cases since 1961 (in Finnish). A separate database includes the judgments of the EU Court of Justice on the Lugano and Brussels Conventions on Jurisdiction and the Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters.
